Het WK handbal is begonnen in Duitsland en Denemarken. Favorites? Germany, France (with or without Serbian/France Nikola Karabatić makes no difference) and Denmark as the big favorites followed by Norway, Sweden, Spain and Croatia. One can expect one of them to win.

Nog weinig te zeggen nu de voorronde nog loopt, Duitsland wist tegen Brasil te imponeren waar de Franse tegen Brasil moeite hadden. Uiteraard hopen we op een herhaling van 2007 waar Duitsland WK werd (and did beat France in the SF ):

Tonight , Germany - France in Berlin.

First interesting match of this competition.

Comparing to last year, France made an important evolution and gave responsibility to young and talented players and without Omeyer, Narcisse retired or Nikola Karabatic injured.
Fabregas was injured last year but now , he is back with full power , «*Wolverine*» is one of new stars who will bring next victories with Dika Mem or Remili.
What is the plan ?

French not fear nobody about physical density and they have a full bench of substitutes with same level. So, they will try to break every offense with a very strong and severe defense. More it will be difficult, more France will hope to show superiority.

In offense, it will be more difficult without their usual playmaker, it is the key of win to improve our collective expression.

Today, Brazil beat Russia 25-23 by surprise.
Difficult to recognize Russian players in this period.
They look like they not eat enough , they not show any personality, they were shooting like blinding people.

Brazil was the opposite, a lot of enthousiasma , a spectacular game plan , a good goalkeeper.

So, Brazil put one feet in second round if they beat Korea in last match.

Brazil was already close to create surprise against France with 20-20 at 50 minutes. Finally, France won 24-22 with more cold blood and goalkeeper Gerard smoking hot.

Great match of handball with intensity in Berlin.
Germans made a good start with some stops from keeper Wolff and some good shots from Wiede.
French were a little bit shy and without help of goalkeeper.Fortunately, Fabregas keep France in the match , 12-10 for Germany half time.

France came back in match very fast and take lead 16-15 with a good efficiency of Quentin Mahé «*the German*», born in Dormagen and married with a German girl.

But, Bohm and Pekeler start bombing our goal and our goalkeepers were again inefficient.

Germany leads 25-23 with 2 minutes to play and one player more.

At this moment , Gerard made a fantastic stop, France was back in business with one goal late at one minute from end.

German lost ball with 24 seconds to play.In last attack , German defense made fault on Mem with 3 seconds to play.
Mem tried take the last shot an missed against German wall. But danish referee not whistle ......

Back to same situation, N’Guessan who missed everything before, talked the shot at buzzer and scored.

Last matches of first round:

Brazil put their second feet in second round by beating Korea so Russia is eliminated.

About France Sorhaindo ( injured) and Claire are replaced by Nikola Karabatic and Melvyn Richardson, king’s choice....

Without pression about results, French are soft and not play with enough agressivity. Russia dominated all match and leads 22-19 with 3 minutes to play. At end France won 23-22 and was leading score only 30 seconds in match. French goalkeepers were very weak and it will be a key of success in next round.

In other important matches ( with points kept in next round) Croatia beat Spain,Denmark beat Norway and Sweden beat Hungary.

Surprise presence in next round from Brazil, Tunisia and Egypt. Deception for Russia, Qatar or Macedonia.

Hätte man auch gegen Frankreich gewonnen, stünde man jetzt mit zwei Siegen und vier Punkten (für alle Fußball-Fans: im Handball gibt es nur zwei Punkte für einen Sieg) mit Kroatien auf Platz 1 der Hauptrunden-Tabelle.

But Germany did not won from France but instead a draw, very sad for Germany. Indeed some surprises in the second round but all 3 surpises will not qualify for the SF's.
For both groups clear that the battle win be between the first 3 now in the groups. Based on my prediction:

Favorites? Germany, France (with or without Serbian/France Nikola Karabatić makes no difference) and Denmark as the big favorites followed by Norway, Sweden, Spain and Croatia.

I think Germany (home advanange also important) and France will qualify so I do not expect Croatia to qualify, but most games will be close. Having said that, winning from Spain and Croatia is far from easy so Croatia and Spain to SF is very well possible.

Today, revenge of Europa championship between France and Spain.
On morning, Spanish trainer called Arpad Sterbic to replace Corrales as goalkeeper because of injury.
We can remember that Sterbic was hero of last Spain victory.
Begin of match was under french domination specially from Ludovic Wolverine Fabregas on Julen Aguinagalde who is now to old to resist more than 30 minutes.
But Winger Sole and entry of Sterbic after 15 minutes permit to Spain to limit the gap . Half time 17-15 for France.
At 18-18 , there was a tactical mistake from Spanish coach who played without goalkeeper on inferiority. 3 loss of ball later 21-18 for France.
It was time for french coach to change his attacking line, Niko Karabatic, Mahé and Remili out and replaced by N’Guessan, Mem and Melvyn Richardson.
Our young shooter Mem showed showed that he have shoulder for be Mvp, the same for son of Jackson Richardson , he was to quick for Spanish defense and made 4 1 to 1 who let Guardiola and Sterbic without answer. At 27-22 for France, Spain tried a desperate move with Dany Sarmiento and some new stop from Sterbic. Spain came back to -3 then -2 with 3 minutes to play.
But goalkeeper Dumoulin made 2 stops and Gabe victory to France33-30.
Ghost from last European Championship was killed.
Tomorrow, match France -Iceland.

Germany beat Iceland 24-19 with a great efficiency of goalkeeper Wolff. German defense was so high that it was close to impossible for Iceland to shot for 9m. In attack , Germany played with power with their physical superiority.
In fact , light Iceland taked a train in full face.
As we say in France , a train can hide another train , and tomorrow , it will be true for Iceland....

Today, I decided to bet on Croatia considering past reputation of control of rhythm , their magic talent, help of referee , history of handball.
But something goes wrong: Brazil.
In fact , auriverde were the only magician on floor of lanxess arena full of Croatian fans.
When Cindric or Karacic, new playmakers looked helpless and without clue in game organization, Brazilian back Langaro,Toledo , zone player Borges and Defender Petrus learned to hrvatska what is real and spectacular handball.
With 17-13 at half time , I still thought that Croatia could win with a good trainer and stupid referees.
But Lino Cervar is somebody from past who prefer now played without goalkeeper even without exclusion. This stupid tactical option gave 8 goals without opponent to Brazil. He made in first half and what he done in second half: the same mistake.
29-26 for Brazil.
Heavy consequences for qualification in semi final.
First , with this level, and without help of referee , it is not possible to beat Germany in next match.
France will look this match with full peace and if they not commit mistake against Iceland, it is possible that the last match will be without importance.

Iceland came to play without their playmaker Palmarson, injured yesterday.
I talked about the theory of the double train after first shock against Germany.
I was true because match was finished after 8 minutes, 6-0 for France.
After , it was a big training with big player turn over. Final score 31-22.
Gerard made 14 stops, Richardson and Porte finished with a 5/5 on scoring.
France will rest now and wait to know what result to make for be in semi final. May be , France need nothing...

I saw last 20 minutes of Norway- Sweden, 3 crowns were already late and Can not react in last minutes.
Sagosen and Myrhol controled the money time with help of goalkeeper. Sweden is now in difficult position and have to beat Denmark in last match, close to impossible when you realize that referees are ready to cheat to make win home country.
I am sure that performance of referees will be very commentated about Germany- Croatia.
The ridiculous Croatian waked up from a better feet today and fight with last energy, they leads 20-19 and German were close to sink.
But good match of Wiede,Wolff and help of referees permit victory of Germans 22-21. Croatians were too nervous to put last stone of a victory.

So, Germany and France will be qualified for semi final, I think with Denmark and Norway

For semi, I see Denmark- France and Germany- Norway.Organisators want a home final Denmark-Germany and only a mixed of strength and crazy could change this scenario.

Ein Krimi Sieg heet dat voor Germany. Germany played not impressive, afraid to shoot and take initiative, anyway SF for Germany and France and yes very likely for Norway and Denmark.
So for I am impressed most by the Norwegian team, but if they play against Germany in the SF they will have difficulties with the strong German defense and GK.

Halftime 21-15 for Denmark, it was a great game from Mikel Hansen and Lauge.
French were totally ineffective in defense and goalkeeper too.
21 goals in 30 minutes , never seen that from a french team, danish looked too fast.
France need a miracle...

Really, I think Denmark will get world champion tittle on Sunday at home, and without help of referee.
It was a clear superiority from Olympic champion.

About France, it is long time that this team not have any tittle. Since 2017 , a lot of”experts” retired :Fernandez, Narcisse, Omeyer and Nikola Karabatic is May be 20%. New player are talented but it is still work in progress for Tokyo 2020 with Mem, Fabregas and Richardson. They will progress for next year. They have their ticket for OQT at home. With N.Karabatic in good health and may be a new good goalkeeper, it will be possible.

They need bronze medal to not be deceptive.

Norway was better than Germany as I already expected. Denmark had not much problems with France, France was beaten as in Rio Olympics,so the final Denmark Norway comes as no surprise.

I had a sure bet on Denmark today and I was never nervous with a storm of quick ball move with some high speed shoot.
All danish were strong and not let any chance to Sagosen’s teammates.

About Germany, still no medals in World championship since 2007, may be it is malediction because of past ....
France was close to loose with first half dominated by Germany 13-9. But impossible to let go against Germany.
At 25-25 with 1 minutes to play , French had the ball of victory but lost it at 20 seconds of end.Abalo who lost ball came back in defense like crazy and intercept the ball with 8 seconds to play.
Guigou caught the ball like in 2007 to give decisive pass to Nikola Karabatic who scored at buzzer.
Germans were under shock and helpless.
France saved their championship... Is it finished for France in future?
In fact , it is a start with new generation born in 96-97 and who won everything in young category.
I hope some progress to fight eyes in eyes against danish dynamite next Year.

The women national team of Netherland found a new trainer.
They signed Emmanuel Mayonnade from France, he is trainer till now from best french club Metz, still in race to win champion’s league.
He refused Bucarest for challenge of Oranje in olympics. He is very ambitious,young and do not want wait seat of French National trainer.
We will see what will happen of this collaboration.
