Today, France had destiny of Norway between hand but in fact french were more preoccupated to increase their level. It was their first complete match to destroy Portugal 32-23.

No, I was very quiet. When you have luck with you, you do not need to be worry.

We came back from bad start with -6 then in end of match we wasted a +3 to go in prolongation. Our defense finally prevaled.

The most interesting match was Denmark- Egypt. It was very high level.

Denmark was leading from one goal in last 10 seconds. Mikkel Hansen had the ball with arms up from referee , it was victory in pocket , He just had to shot on goal even in sky but he made a forbidden pass to winger. Referees considered it like unsportsman conduct , so He received a red card and penalty to equalize score for Egypt.

In prolongation, it was crazy. Goalkeeper from Egypt was hot and kept his team in match then totally closed his goal to give advantage to Egypt. But Landin made same and Denmark scored for draw in last seconds. In shootout, Denmark had more solid nerves.

Week of final 4 in champion's league women in Budapest.

Brest was there for first time after a victory against my club in quarter final of CL and in final of french championship.

My predictions for this competitions are that Norway is favorit as usual with good goalkeepers, Oftedal, Mork and Reistad.
France is second in spite of olympic tittle: Leynaud, Lacrabère, Ayglon, Dembélé are retired but 3 of them were not in olympics finals. It is still a solid team.
Russia will be not so dangerous, they lost Vyakhireva,Kuznetsova and Dmitrieva, This team is too new but with a new star Mykhaylichenko (ukrainian name)...not in semi for me.
Denmark is for me the raising one and a big outsider.
Last place in semi for NL or Sweden, more Sweden because they are in progress when Oranje are more searching themselves with a new trainer (but magic is possible) and some retirement too.

World championship already began but not really because number of team are 32 now and not 24 like before.
Competitions is a big joke and it is a lesson for people who wanted to make compete more countries in worlc cup of football.
A little exception,Slovenia had ambitions against France today.
Coach Hadzic ( ex Montenegro) told that his team will try to punch back french girls by agressivity.
After 15 minutes , France was leading 7-1 and best players of Slovenia , Anna Gros was on bench crying. It is little stupid to declare war without fighters in team.

Norway was clearly favorites for bookmakers but it is best position for France.
After first 20 minutes very equal with 7-7, France changed of defense and outscored Norway by 5 goals.
If end of half was not so chaotic with some bad change and some exclusion stupid, Norway could be already too far.
Anyway, France is leading 16-12 and wait second half to be successor of Nederlands.
French defense was really amazing and it is difficult to recognize Norvegian efficiency, only Brattseth and Aune are on their level. So they still have chance to progress and win in second half.

Turned in the second half. Very difficult team to beat this Norway. When you think you have them, they switch to a higher gear and take the lead. It helps also that they have a very strong keeper.

In 3 minutes , Norway came back at 16-16 with Sollberg , invincible as goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for France, it was not the end of nightmare. French girls totally lost control and they lost 17-6 in second period. French attack failed without goals during 11 minutes and let bitter in mouth.

France had the ball of 17-10 then it was a total shut down mental from girls who were surprised to be in so good position. I am so shocked that it is difficult to analyze what happened.

It was the most hard half never seen for France since ages. Congratulations to Norway with Sollberg and Reistad on top with victory 29-22.

I remember some talking in half time of France -Brazil 1998 when France was leading 2-0. Deschamps was shouting on Thuram to keep nerves and that they had to play like if it was 0-0.

Ik had de wedstrijd opgenomen en heb net met enige verrassing deze stunt terug zitten kijken. Yesterday , I had a look to NL-Iceland to assimilate this new team on european scene.

Oranje men have a different style than women who are more on power of fire in long distance shot. They are more quick on rhytm and run a lot in same way of Luc Steins.
NL miss only of weight because they are thin but not massive like french.

De Nederlandse handballers hebben zich geplaatst voor de tweede ronde van het EK in Hongarije en Slowakije. Dankzij een 32-31 zege op Portugal in de laatste groepswedstrijd, eindigde Oranje op de tweede plaats in de poule en behoort het tot de beste twaalf landen van dit Europees kampioenschap.

Het Nederlandse mannenteam deed in 2020 voor het eerst aan een EK mee en kwam toen niet verder dan de eerste ronde.

IJsland werd groepswinnaar in de poule van Nederland. De IJslanders versloegen eerder op de avond in een spannend duel Hongarije met 31-30 en schakelden daarmee het gastland uit.

Iceland was coming as victim against France with 8 players missing.

Man man man, wat een verhaal weer. Twee eerste doelmannen, de keeperstrainer én de eerste vervanger positief, dus moesten De Knegt en Thijs van Leeuwen van hun werk losgeweekt worden. De Knegt begon nog wel tegen Montenegro als doelman, maar Van Leeuwen viel halverwege in: speelt bij Neerpelt en werkt ook 36u als "ontwerper van schedelimplantaten". Hoe hem voorbij te komen was voor de Montenegrijnen af en toe een breinbreker ;) Hij werkt geheel terecht van man de wedstrijd. Oh, coach Richardson is ook positief, assitent Kippers moest hem vervangen.

Denk dat je NED so far wel the big surpise van dit EK mag noemen. Dat ze de hoofdronde halen had ik al niet verwacht maar ze wonnen 2 maal, tegen thuisland Hongarije en Portugal en een nipt verlies tegen IJsland. Tegen FRA liep het tot 12-12 nog wel maar daarna moest men afhaken, niet zo vreemd als je naar alle positieve gevallen kijkt.

Als je dan bedenkt hoeveel spelers inmiddels uit zijn gevallen waaronder de 2 keepers, dan is het een mirakel te noemen dat er van Montenegro werd gewonnen. Toch gebeurde het, wel opgemerkt dat inmiddels NED zo is gegroeid dat men alleen voor de absolute top angst moet hebben en daar hoort Montenegro niet bij. Denemarken wel, wat heet, Denemarken is de WK van 2019 en 2021. De kans dat NED wint van DEN is 0.001%.

Verhaal van keeper van Leeuwen is natuurlijk bizar, vrijdag nog op zijn werk en dan wordt ie gebeld door Edwin Kippers of ie even kan komen om in te vallen, moet zijn baas nog wel even overtuigen en belooft zijn laptop mee te nemen zodat ie op het EK ook nog wat kan werken ;). Vervolgens wordt ie man of the match met een save percentage van boven de 40% en dat is in het handbal veel.

Anyway NED heeft laten zien dat ze ook bij de mannen een team zijn waar rekening mee moet worden gehouden, absoluut nog geen vaste waarde als topland, wel een team waar nu ook de toplanden inmiddels rekening mee houden.

Feitelijk is het EK natuurlijk nu al lang geslaagd, alles wat nu nog komt en meezit is mooi meegenomen!

End of turnament for NL this afternoon with a draw 28-28 againt Croatia. It was the best performance ever for Oranje with a 9th place and a more easy group next year to qualify in major turnament.

Yesterday, Spain qualified with a really lucky victory against Poland. In fact, Corrales saved them two times in last minutes when match was in hands of polish.
In 1/4 final between Sweden and Norway, it was again a finish in last seconds. Sweden eliminated Norway for one goal.

Today, Iceland won his last match against Montenegro. Denmark is already qualified for semi before last match against France...
France is back in business and have his destiny in her hands.
We need a draw to qualify and Denmark will let on bench Mikkel HAnsen, Gidsel and Saugstrup ( their best players). France will not count on Mahé and Tournat because of covid.

Nightmare continued all first half without any stop from Goalkeeper. 17-12 for Denmark with a big performance from Holm.
In second half, contrast between individual game from France and Collective games from Denmark was pityfull for France.

I looked the beginning of the match and Denmark was playing well and was leading 9-5.
I fell asleep and when I opened my eyes Spain had +2 advantage with 20 minutes to go...
Then , Gonzales De Vargas was amazing as goalkeeper and danish Landin not.
Denmark was dominating men handball from 2016 to 2018 then Mikkel Hansen and Landin are little less fit and efficient.

I didn't have high hopes of Spain winning against Denmark; Denmark usually is stronger and Spain misses some important players. After the first 10 minutes my hopes were even less, but strange enough after the first half the Danish had only one goal more. That gave the Spanish still hope and in second half suddenly all changed with a few very strong playing players like Gomez, Canellas and the keeper Vargas. Feels a little bit like beating USA with basketball.
Anyway, this is the fourth subsequent european final for Spain.

Fabregas was excluded 2 minutes and we send out our goalkeeper to play equal in attack. Big mistake: Palicka made 3 stops for Sweden and he scored 3 goals from his side in empty french goal.
Sweden was leading17-14 in half time.
French goalkeepers were like ghost but french tried to fight with new player Aymeric Minne. He brings back France close to Sweden in last minute from -2 to have the ball of extra time in hand in last seconds.
Again a duel Fabregas /Palicka , again swedish win it with a stop of last shot with his ass.
Painfull defeat with a great Gotfridsson in Swedish team and some question about management of Guillaume Gilles who let too much same players on pitch and not use enough our young gems.

Sweden wins the final with 27-26 against Spain. A little bit strange referee decision with penalty at minute 60 for Sweden.
When it's a tied result than this kind of decisions decide the end result. I think the Spanish played very well, so it was a pity that the match was decided by details.

De Nederlandse handbalmannen kunnen zich alsnog gaan opmaken voor het WK, dat begin volgend jaar wordt gehouden in Polen en Zweden. Oranje miste plaatsing door in de play-offs onderuit te gaan tegen Portugal, maar de Internationale Handbal Federatie (IHF) heeft een van de twee beschikbare wildcards aan Nederland gegeven.

"Iemand stuurde een link van de IHF in de whatsappgroep", vertelt aanvoerder Bobby Schagen. "En toen werd iedereen helemaal gek. Er was geen datum gegeven wanneer het bekend zou worden. Dus dit kwam echt uit de lucht vallen."

Opmars beloond

De IHF is niet over één nacht ijs gegaan. Meerdere landen hadden al laten weten oren te hebben naar een wildcard. De doorslag gaf de opmars die de Nederlandse mannen de laatste jaren maken. De directe WK kwalificatie lukte helaas net niet. Uit werd van Portugal gewonnen maar thuis nipt verloren. Het is een mooie beloning voor de opmars vd Nederlandse heren, jarenlang stelde het mannen handbal niet al te veel voor maar nu hebben ze aansluiting gevonden bij de Europese sub top dat is dan ook meteen we wereld sub top want Handbal is nu eenmaal vooral een Europese sport.

Aansluiting bij de wereld top zal een onmogelijke opgave zijn, daarvoor is mannen handbal in NL te klein al spelen dan veel toppers in sterke buitenlandse competities.
Bij de vrouwen is dat wel gelukt bij de mannen is dat een stuk lastiger, een stabiele sub-topper is ook al heel mooi.

Handbalsters rekenen af met wereld- en Europees kampioen Noorwegen

Negen dagen voor aanvang van de Europese titelstrijd hebben de Nederlandse handbalsters flink zelfvertrouwen getankt. In de Golden League werd mondiale grootmacht Noorwegen voor eigen publiek met 33-24 verslagen.

Angela Malenstein werd in Stavanger uitgeroepen tot beste speelster van de wedstrijd. Ze was goed voor zeven treffers en daarmee topscorer. Begin deze maand waren de Noorse vrouwen in de Golden League nog oppermachtig: 27-19.

De ploeg van bondscoach Per Johansson deed geen moment onder voor de regerend wereld- en Europees kampioen. De Zweed in Nederlandse dienst nam de gelegenheid te baat om het jonge tweetal Kim Molenaar en Pipy Wolfs op te nemen in zijn keurkorps.

De kwart finales, met eigenlijk maar 1 kleine verrassing, Hongarije ipv IJsland. NL verliest nadat ze met de rust nog voorstonden en vlak voor tijd nog gelijk, wat ongelukkig van Servië. Probleem is dat de basis 6 veld spelers en ook de keeper wel het niveau hebben om ook tegen de toplanden mee te kunnen doen maar dat met name in de opbouw ze niet 3 spelers hebben die de basis wat rust kunnen geven. Dat breekt je uiteindelijk op zoals ook bleek
tegen Duitsland. Toch kan Oranje terug kijken op een geslaagd toernooi. De top 8 is nog te hoog gegrepen maar men heeft zich ook tegen de top prima geweerd. Er zijn nog wat spelers die moeten groeien en ervaring opdoen.

Aanwas van onderen blijft lastig, daarvoor is Handbal bij de mannen in NL toch een relatief kleine sport. Alleen met spelers die in buitenlandse sterke competities ervaring opdoen kan de stap omhoog gemaakt worden.

Denmark was too strong, also defensive with a very strong keeper. Spain lost the match in the first half which finished with 5 goals difference for Denmark (10-15). P1 spoke about revenge against Sweden. I think he understand very well french spirit.
France started very well with Vincent Gérard as goalkeeper. This guy made 1/21 last year ( against Sweden)and 0 % in last match against Germany.
This time , he put his team in good conditions with help of usual french intensity in defense. They digged a gap of 4 goals in first half.
In second half, swedish tried to come back but not more than -2 after some loss of balls of Remili.
Central defense of France was impressive with Fabregas, Luka Karabatic and Tournat. They are big, tall and fast. As playmaker, Remili, Mem and Mahé taked their responsibilities at their turn.
After retirement of legends ( Guigou,Abalo, Sorhaindo and soon Niko Karabatic), some young ones are coming hungry of tittle.

It is time to win this 7th world champion tittle.

Magdeburg heeft de CL gewonnen met een opvallende rol voor Kay Smits. Ze waren niet de grote favoriet maar winnen wel. Luc Stijns redde het niet met PSG maar was wel als ik het goed heb de MVP in de Franse competitie.
De Nederlandse heren hadden zich al als eerste in de Poule geplaatst voor het EK in Duitsland en ook dat is knap. Wat bij de dames geldt dat geldt ook voor de mannen. Alleen als je genoeg spelers hebt die bij topteams in sterke buitenlandse competities uitkomen kun je de stap naar de wereldtop maken. De vrouwen is dat gelukt. Nu zien of de mannen ook die laatste stap kunnen maken, zal wel lastig zijn.
In NL blijft handbal een relatief kleine sport met alleen een budget om op te leiden. De laatste stap moet in het buitenland gemaakt worden.

Geen grote verrassingen in de KO fase. In 2019 werd NL wereldkampioen na in de voorronde en tussenronde 3 maal verloren te hebben, toen begon de KO fase als 1/2 finale, Rusland werd verslagen en in halve en Spanje in de finale.

With this gap, France had a hand on the match but second half was totally different with a great Félix Claar and some stop from the wall Palicka.
Sweden was leading 27-25 with less than1 minute to play.
At this moment Remili lost the ball when he tried to pass the ball to wing with a back pass who fall on back of his shoe. Referees thought that the ball was touched by swedish defense.

10s from end , Gottfridsson go to score the victory goal but referee cancelled it for a step to much in his movement ( true).

Eigenlijk wordt het weer eens tijd voor een medaille op een groot toernooi, het kan maar dat is geen eenvoudige opgave. Bij verlies tegen Duitsland is nog niet alles verloren maar winst is wel zo lekker. In de voorbereiding werd nog van de Duitse dames verloren.

De Nederlandse handbalsters hebben dinsdag de groepsfase van het EK ongeslagen en als groepswinnaar afgesloten. Oranje boekte in de derde en laatste groepswedstrijd een monsterzege op Oekraïne: 43-23

De Nederlandse handbalsters zijn donderdag goed begonnen aan de hoofdfase van het EK. Oranje was in het Oostenrijkse Wenen te sterk voor Slovenië: 26-22.

Bondscoach Staffan Olsson van de Nederlandse handballers is vrijdag na het WK-duel met Noord-Macedonië bespuugd door supporters. Oranje gaat een klacht indienen bij de internationale handbalbond IHF.
Nederland won de wedstrijd in het Kroatische Varazdin met 37-32, waarna een grimmige sfeer ontstond in de zaal. Supporters van Noord-Macedonië gooiden spullen op het veld en bespuugden Olsson.

De handbalbond van Noord-Macedonië heeft zaterdag een geldboete gekregen voor de misdragingen van de fans bij de wedstrijd tegen Nederland op het WK. Ook het Kroatische organisatiecomité wordt bestraft, meldt de internationale handbalbond IHF.

I was not optimistic about France after the incredible fiasco of olympics 24 with players without collective games in offense or defense, egoistic and some goalkeeper without impact.

Nikola Karabatic retired like Vincent Gérard,Luc Abalo. France found some new ressources to renew their games with Aymeric Minne as playmaker, Thibaud Briet as shooter or Desbonnet and Bolzinger as goalkeeper.

Till begin of competition, France was never challenged and wait KO matches of 1/4 finals ( Egypt or Croatia).
Other 1/4 final will be Denmark - Brazil, Portugal- Germany and Iceland- Hungary

Hungary is only qualified if they do not lose against Qatar. If they lose and Holland beats Austria, Holland will go to the last 8. Most likely is that Hungary will qualify.

Brasil and Portugal doing indeed very well. A final Denmark France can be expected. Denmark will be the next WC. As they were in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

Interest in WM of handball was minimal this year.
The level of game was not so high after olympics and retirement of some incredible players for age reason.

About France, impression is not so good. Our trainer looks without tactical power and our players even good by individuals are not a real team. We lost our security on some other countries and we can not compete anymore against super master Denmark.
France won in quarter final at last second against Egypt then lost in semi in Zagreb against Croatia by lack of mental and charisma. Before, it was moment where France was unbeatable, now we are fragile.
So Croatia was qualified to meet Denmark in final. It was a lesson from danish 32-26 without suspens. Gidsel is their new leader after Hansen retirement and they replaced Landin by Emil Nielsen as goalkeeper.

For bronze, France was against Portugal. This unusual duel happen because of bright game from portuguese who beat Germany in extra time. It was very undecided match and France won this medal in last second again with a stop of Bolzinger with head. We notice that our trainer put this time a real playmaker with Aymeric Minne in place of Remili.Not enough to put fans in extasis.

Estavana Polman is dolgelukkig dat ze weer terug is bij de handbalsters. De routinier werd in november plotseling gepasseerd voor het EK, maar droomt na een open en eerlijk gesprek met de bondscoach weer van het WK. "Dat zou zó gaaf zijn."
